Jean-Claude Boisset is a family-owned wine company founded in 1961, with their first parcel located in Gevrey-Chambertin. Today the company is run by 2nd generation siblings Jean-Charles and Nathalie Boisset and is based in Les Ursulines, a former convent in Nuits-Saint-Georges converted into a state-of-the-art winery. Since 2002, the wines have been made by Grégory Patriat. Previously head viticulturist and assistant winemaker at the legendary Domaine Leroy, Grégory has brought a detailed, vineyard-led approach to Jean-Claude Boisset. After tasting the 2021 vintage, Jancis Robinson wrote that she “was utterly knocked out by the balance and refinement of Grégory Patriat’s wines at J-C Boisset”
Appearance: In the glass, this wine presents a bright and clear ruby colour, with a youthful vibrancy that hints at its freshness and lively nature.
Nose: The bouquet is immediately inviting, with an expressive nose dominated by red fruit aromas such as cherry, raspberry, and red currant. These primary notes are complemented by delicate floral hints of peony and rose petal. Subtle undertones of spice, including a touch of white pepper and a whisper of clove, add depth and complexity.
Palate: On the palate, ‘Les Beaumonts’ is medium-bodied with a silky texture and well-integrated tannins. The red fruit character from the nose follows through, with flavours of juicy cherry and raspberry taking centre stage. There’s a pleasant acidity that provides freshness and balance, alongside a gentle minerality that speaks to the terroir. The spice notes become more pronounced on the palate, with hints of nutmeg and a touch of earthy mushroom.
Finish: The finish is elegant and persistent, with the vibrant red fruit and subtle spice lingering pleasantly. The wine’s refined structure and balanced acidity suggest a good potential for aging, though it is also thoroughly enjoyable in its youth.
Pairing: This Chorey-lès-Beaune is a versatile food companion. It pairs beautifully with poultry dishes such as roast chicken or duck breast, as well as with lighter red meats like veal or pork tenderloin. It also complements earthy mushroom dishes and a variety of semi-soft cheeses.
