THE CHARBAUT FAMILY HISTORY
The members of the Charbaut family, who have been wine-growers from father to son for three generations have maintained the family character
of their Champagne House, in order to keep up the well-known prestige brands, Selection Brut, Premier Cru Rose, Vintage, Blanc de Blanc
Premier Cru, Cuvee Reserve Premier Cru, Blanc Noir and the superb Prestige Memory (100% cru grapes & 100% Chardonnay).
In 1930 the Grandfather Andre planted his first vineyards in Mareuil sure Ay, the greater part which is situated on the most favourable hillsides
with a classification of 90-100% Cru grapes resulting in the production of superb champagnes with an excellent presentation.
In the village of Mareuil sur Ay, Andre owned his own press houses and cellars which were tunnelled under 25 metres of chalk with a capacity for
3 million bottles in storage tunnels 1.5 kilometres. The chalk cellars are dating back to the l9th Century.
His son Guy continued the work of wine grower and in 1960 planted approximately another 10 hectares.
With the demise of Guy, the business continued under the control of Xavier his son who manages the house of Charbaut
with about 20 hectares of vineyards.
