This traditional 14 hectare family domaine, founded in 1929 and situated adjacent to Chateau de Pommard, had a new lease of life breathed into it in 2019, when the young generation took over its running. Today at the helm are Jeanne Joillot (great grand-daughter of the founder, Robert Joillot), her step-brother, Simon Goutard and Jeanne’s husband, Gregoire Guidot. The property was re-named in 2019 in honour of Jeanne’s grandfather, Georges.

Appearance: In the glass, this Pommard showcases a deep ruby colour with garnet highlights, hinting at its concentration and potential for aging.

Nose: The bouquet is expressive and elegant, presenting a harmonious blend of red and black fruits. Expect to find aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, and plum intertwined with earthy undertones, hints of forest floor, and subtle spice notes of cinnamon and clove. As it opens up, floral nuances of violet and rose petal emerge, adding an extra layer of sophistication.

Palate: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm yet refined tannins that provide a solid backbone. The fruit profile mirrors the nose, dominated by rich cherry and blackberry flavors, accented by notes of licorice, black pepper, and a touch of leather. The old vines contribute to a concentrated mid-palate, with a pleasing minerality and a velvety texture.

Finish: The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of dark fruit, spice, and a hint of smokiness. There’s a delightful balance of acidity and tannin, which suggests that this wine has great aging potential.

Pairing: This Pommard Vieilles Vignes pairs wonderfully with hearty dishes such as beef bourguignon, lamb stew, or duck confit. It also complements a variety of aged cheeses, making it a versatile choice for a sophisticated dining experience.
