Winemaker

Louis Roederer was founded in 1776 and remains run by the same family to this day, with Frédéric Rouzaud now at the winemaking
helm. In 2012, the Rouzaud family purchased Champagne Leclerc Briant to control production as a grower-merchant. This not only
increased their total vineyard ownership to 240 hectares (planted on some of Champagne’s best sites) but means Louis Roederer
is now the biggest biodynamic producer in Champagne. They currently have 82 hectares of biodynamically and organically
farmed land.

Appearance:
The Lucien Collard Champagne Grand Cru Millésimé 2014 boasts a luminous golden colour with a subtle hint of green, reflecting its youthful vibrancy. The effervescence is fine and persistent, creating a delicate and continuous stream of bubbles.

Nose:
On the nose, this vintage Champagne presents an intricate bouquet that evolves beautifully in the glass. Initial aromas of citrus fruits, such as lemon zest and grapefruit, are complemented by green apple and pear. As it breathes, more complex notes of white flowers, such as acacia and honeysuckle, emerge. There are also subtle hints of toasted brioche, hazelnut, and a delicate minerality that underscores the wine’s Grand Cru origins.

Palate:
The palate of the Lucien Collard Millésimé 2014 is a delightful interplay of freshness and depth. The initial impression is vibrant and lively, with bright acidity that brings out flavours of citrus and green apple. These fruit flavours are seamlessly integrated with a creamy texture, indicative of the wine’s time spent on the lees. Mid-palate reveals layers of complexity, including nuances of almond, pastry cream, and a touch of honey, which add to the richness and body of the wine.

Finish:
The finish is elegant and lingering, with a crisp and refreshing acidity that leaves the palate clean. There are subtle notes of chalk and flint, typical of Grand Cru terroir, which add to the wine’s complexity and length. A gentle hint of salinity rounds off the finish, making it both intriguing and satisfying.

Food Pairing:
This Grand Cru Millésimé 2014 is an excellent choice for fine dining. Its complexity and structure make it a versatile partner for a range of dishes. It pairs wonderfully with seafood, such as oysters, lobster, and seared scallops. Poultry dishes, particularly those with creamy sauces, are also a great match. For cheese lovers, a selection of aged cheeses like Brie de Meaux or Beaufort will complement the wine’s rich flavours.
